1/29/2024 Update: Meadowbrook Legal Group was mentioned as a potential facade law firm indicated in the CFPB lawsuit for deceptive debt relief practices.

As such, I shot this video below to help you understand what's going on. Please considering watching the video and then calling or texting me at 408-543-8617 if you have any questions about your options next.

How did you end up hearing about Meadowbrook Legal Group? Did you get prequalified for a debt consolidation loan and was referred there?

It appears that Meadowbrook may provide debt settlement services (also phrased sometimes as a debt consolidation program), but let's dive into just what we found.

We found some interesting things, so let's get started.

Does Meadowbrook Legal charge fees before settling debt?

In our research, we found that Meadowbrook Legal has some similarities between Boulder Legal Group, which may be charging first before settling debt. When you look at the initial legal agreement with Meadowbrook, does it look something like this where there are 4 separate fees that all come out BEFORE the settlement?

Meadowbrook Legal may take fees before first settlement like Boulder Legal appears to do.

In some cases, a law firm can take service and retainer fees, but what's interesting is that in the contract, Boulder is able to contract out the work to other entities, specifically debt negotiation services.

Has Your Credit Been Negatively Affected? What Are Good Debt Consolidation Alternatives?

You joined a debt consolidation program, and now you may have been sued for unpaid debt and your credit score may have plummeted. So, what are alternatives to debt consolidation?

We built a free debt consolidation alternatives calculator below that compares cost, duration, and pros and cons of key debt consolidation alternatives.

Let’s go through the reviews.

Meadowbrook Legal Reviews

In my opinion, two of the most unbiased, holistic review sites are BBB reviews and complaints and Google reviews. It may tend to be a bit more negative, but it seems to be a source of information.

So, what are the other reviews?

BBB

On BBB, Meadowbrook Legal Group currently has a 1/5 rating based on 2 reviews, and a C- rating. When I see these types of reviews, I wonder whether someone else is signing people up for Meadowbrook Legal Group, and that Meadowbrook Legal Group is not doing direct marketing.

Unfortunately, it seems as though Meadowbrook is fairly new and no complaints were published on the BBB page yet.

That said, here are the two reviews. One reviewer mentioned that Meadowbrook was trying to settle the wrong account. Another reviewer stated that the company did very little work, but just sent out letters and collected fees.

Let's look at the Google reviews.

Google

On Google, unfortunately Meadowbrook didn’t have a profile pop up with any information (address, phone number, Google reviews, etc).

However, I was able to find a Yelp review from an individual who had a bad experience with Meadowbrook.

She said she feels as though Meadowbrook is engaged in deceptive business practices. She believed she was being placed in a debt settlement program so she added money to a “savings account” that she found out was being used for nothing. She has now fallen into even more debt than she was in before due to the fact that she was deceived by the company.

So, What is Meadowbrook Legal?

Meadowbrook Legal Group appears to be a debt relief law firm that is pitching debt settlement. I wouldn’t be surprised if Meadowbrook Legal Group was tied to a much bigger organization as it appears that there are more of these firms that have similarities.

When I look at these companies, I like to understand how old the website is and see any information I can about the company.

What’s really interesting is that from the first pulled Meadowbrook Legal Group home page screenshot, is that the website had a basic login on April 6, 2022. This may mean that both the company and/or the website may be relatively newer, but it could also mean that it just didn't have a website or that Wayback machine didn't properly pull the data.

Your Options

You have a few options when considering what to do. That said, you may be at a point where you've been in the program for so long that you want to see it through. That said, here are other options.
  1. If you have any other things to add to this article, please consider contacting me at 833-272-3631. I’d love to hear about your experience.
  2. If you would like to stay with Meadowbrook Legal Group, you may want to read the Client Services Agreement in its entirety. If they are taking out fees before settlement, why are they doing that? What are they actually doing for you and what’s the percentage fee they charge?
  3. If you’d like to cancel, you may be able to contact them directly, but you may also have to get assistance from your bank if they do not allow you to cancel the program easily.
  4. You can take the free calculator below to help you understand potential alternatives.
