1/29/2024 Update: Heartland Legal Group was mentioned in the CFPB lawsuit against SFS for deceptive debt relief practices.

On 1/29/2024, I shot and uploaded this video. Please considering watching the video and then calling or texting me at 408-543-8617 if you have any questions about your options next.

Did you first receive a debt consolidation loan mailer, but ended up getting enrolled in a debt relief program with Heartland Legal Group?

Let’s go through the Heartland Legal reviews.

Heartland Legal Reviews

When reviewing companies such as Heartland Legal, I like to start with BBB and Google reviews as it seems that those reviews may be less biased.

What I found interesting was that there was a current BBB alert for Heartland Legal Group showing a pattern of complaint. It’s the first time I’ve seen this type of alert.

Has Your Credit Been Negatively Affected? What Are Alternatives?

You joined a debt consolidation program, and now you may have been sued for unpaid debt and your credit score may have plummeted. So, what are alternatives to debt consolidation?

So, what are the reviews?

BBB

On BBB, Heartland Legal Group currently has a 1.03 rating based on 112 reviews, and a F- rating. There have been 90 complaints in the last 3 years including 20 complaints in the last 12 months. When I see this, I wonder whether someone else is signing people up for Heartland Legal Group, and that Heartland Legal Group is not doing direct marketing.

Many of the Heartland Legal Group BBB reviews discuss not communicating and not working on their cases yet taking their fees upfront anyways. The reviews below are much the same. One review states that the individual paid $320 a month for 3 years and found out that no debts were settled and two of them were in litigation. Another says that the legal group’s poor communication led to litigation as well and she was told that she had to pay $6000 even after making all the payments on time.

Google

On Google, Heartland Legal Group has a 2.6 rating based on 175 reviews.

Similar to the BBB reviews, some of the Google reviews warn others to not use this company. One review states that after paying off the account 5 months early, the legal group told the individual that they would have to pay at least 15 more months of the monthly payment. The other says that the legal group just takes your money and does not pay off the debt.

So, What is Heartland Legal?

Heartland Legal Group appears to be a law firm that is pitching debt settlement. I wouldn’t be surprised if Heartland Legal Group was tied to a much bigger organization as it appears that there are more of these firms that have similarities.

When I look at these companies, I like to understand how old the website is and see any information I can about the company.

What I found interesting is that Heartland Legal Group's website has what appears to be the first website reading from October 29, 2020. This means that the company may be newer or potentially that it didn't have a web presence or something else.

When Googling the address, it appear that Heartland Legal Group may be 100% virtual as the 41000 Woodward Avenue Suite 350 is tied to a virtual mailing address.

Your Options

Some things to consider moving forward:

If you have personal experience with Heartland Legal Group worth sharing, please give me a call at 833-272-3631. I love to hear personal stories and any insight you can provide.

If you would like to continue in your program with Heartland Legal Group, you may want to read the Client Services Agreement in its entirety. If they are taking out fees before settlement, why are they doing that? What are they actually doing for you and what’s the percentage fee they charge?

If you’d like to cancel, you may be able to contact them directly, but you may also have to get assistance from your bank if they do not allow you to cancel the program easily.
